Longing for home

"And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son."

This is our future

I was grading a student's quiz the other day and came across a question that he did not know the answer to. Instead of leaving the question blank, he wrote (and keep in mind that this is a high-school sophomore) "fart fart poop."

This is a representative sample of who (or what) will one day be running our country.

Jesus, please come soon.

Good advice

I had to say something to a student this week that I never thought I would have to say (and, quite honestly, hoped I never would). I looked this teenage boy in the eye and said...

"Don't touch me until you pull up your pants."

As what seems to be the theme for me lately, it's not as shady as it sounds. He was wearing three pairs of pants so he could sag (somebody please stop this ridiculous fashion trend!), and he decided he wanted to take the outermost pair off. He had only gotten as far as getting them down around his ankles when he walked over to give me a hug.

I told this story to a friend, and she suggested that what I said to this boy is really a good motto for life.

Gentlemen, kindly do not touch us until you pull up your pants.
